Product Description
How Do GRP Roof Light Sheets Work?
GRP roof light sheets are translucent roofing panels that enhance natural lighting while maintaining structural integrity and weather resistance. Their key mechanisms include:
- Light Transmission:
- Diffuse daylight at an 80% transmission rate evenly spreads light to reduce glare and hot spots and create a comfortable indoor environment.
- Ideal for reducing reliance on artificial lighting and lowering energy costs.
- Structural Compatibility:
- Designed to interlock with Phoenix Steels’ steel roofing sheets, ensuring a watertight and aesthetically cohesive roof system. For example, the 32/1000 GRP profile matches the Box Profile 32/1000 sheet, with a 132mm trough and two 25mm ribs.
- Available in single, double, or triple-skin configurations for varying insulation and safety needs.
- Installation:
- Lightweight (e.g., 2.4kg/m² for some profiles) and easy to handle, reducing installation time and labour costs.
- Fixed using specialized fasteners, such as Phoenix Steels’ tek fixings with 8mm hexagon heads, water safe washers, and colour-coded caps for a secure, leak-proof fit.
- Can be cut to size on-site or pre-cut by Phoenix Steels for precise fitting.
- Protection and Maintenance:
- Coated with an anti-fade, UV-resistant layer to prevent yellowing or degradation from sunlight exposure, preserving the sheet’s appearance and longevity.
- Chemical-resistant and cleanable with detergents or steam, though chemical residues should be washed off to maintain the sheet’s lifespan.
The roof lights range from class 1 to class 3 surface spread flame achieving a SAA rating from BS-476:1997 to BS-476-3:2004.
